How your order is made

This one is finished and waiting on the shelf, so it goes out straight away. Most of what we sell is cut to order, and that runs like this.

  1. 01You order. We take your size, your colour and your address, and your pair joins the week’s cutting list.
  2. 02We cut. A paper pattern goes down on a whole hide and one pair comes off it. Nothing was stamped out in advance.
  3. 03We build it. Skived, stitched, soled and burnished by hand at the bench, then checked, because it leaves here with our name on it.
  4. 04It reaches you. Boxed and handed to the courier, or put on the counter in Randburg for you to collect free.
The story

Chouara is the tannery in Fez where hides have been worked in stone pits for close to a thousand years. Much of the leather that came out of it started as goatskin carried north by caravan from the Hausa cities of Kano and Katsina. We are not in Fez and we do not pretend to be, but this is the bag we cut when we want to make something that would not have looked out of place coming off that road: one large soft body in chocolate leather, a full lining, a zip across the top and a strap you can wear long or short.

Named for Chouara. Made by us.

Care

Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Keep out of direct sun. Feed with a neutral leather balm two or three times a year, more if you wear them hard.
