An ankle strap changes what a sandal can do. It stops being something you shuffle in and becomes something you can walk a full day in.

The heel counter is shaped rather than cut straight, so it cups the back of the foot instead of sawing at it. The buckle is set on the outside where you can reach it. Black strap against a tan footbed. The contrast is deliberate; it makes the foot look longer.
